WASTE CITY JAHRESPROJEKT

WASTE CITY- A PROJECT OF ONE YEAR DURATION

Children aged 3 to 12 constructed different buildings made out of leftovers from cardboard and plastic and arranged them onto a table with a height of 30 centimetres and a surface of 2 metres length and 1 metre width. Skyscrapers, a hospital, a bus, rockets, an observatory, a parkdeck, a beach with the sea and ships, food stalls, passages, and further buildings made out of pipes and plasticballs and rooms that reminded on dollhouses, …

A slot car racing track went through the city where the children could make a competition with two cars. The street as a device for the city bond, entangled and disconnected the several objects whereby different quarters inevitably were formed.
The topical interrelation of the course with the exhibition widened with other activities of the “GfZK Für Dich”. There were interfaces between the pickbox of the ongoing exhibition as well as “Waste City” was used for other projects such as a video clip that adolescents have filmed in the context of “GfZK Für Dich”. This was a benefit for the cildren of the “Waste City” again as they perceived their work with a lot of fun revitalised and made further use of it.
„Waste City“ shouldn`t solely be a handicraft work, but also a means to picture numerous areas such as the needs and experiences of the children, the institutional possibilities and, not least, day-to-day and specific possibilities like in life itself.
